At Dungeness, the landscape feels almost otherworldly: vast shingle plains, skeletal structures and a lighthouse standing against the elements. Savon de Dungeness imagines this remote coastline as a place of folklore, where an ancient guardian watches over the boundary between land and sea.
Drawing on mythical creatures and the visual language of antique engravings, the identity gives this mythology a physical form. A sculptural bar of soap becomes an artefact, its surface bearing the mark of a mythical guardian. An experimental wooden mechanism reveals the soap through a slow, deliberate act of carving.
Raw timber, mineral textures, ivory tones and intricate black illustrations create a tension between the elemental and the ceremonial. Rooted in the landscape and shaped by myth, Savon de Dungeness transforms an everyday ritual into an encounter with something strange and imagined.
